It is Spring
with a plethora of colour flowers, from crocuses to daffodils, heralding in
warmer weather and hopefully a less restricted summer than last year. What a
difference a year makes!
Throughout my
book I frequently make reference to new beginnings. There are many times during
our lifetime that changes can severely challenge our equilibrium and sometime
derail our sense of self. However, I also argue that these changes, no matter
how disruptive, may also offer the seeds of new beginnings.
The arrival
of Spring is a reminder from nature that everything is in the process of
changing. The end of one season leads us into the start of another with all its
joys and delights. Everything is in a constant process of evolving and so are
we. I talk about attitude at some length in my book and a reminder is that we
always have a choice. We can choose to resist change, or we can accept the new
opportunities that accompany change.
In fact, it
is futile to resist as change will merely continue to emerge and resistance
means we will deny ourselves the gifts of new opportunities. No matter what age
we are, change will come calling. Furthermore, there is no age restriction on
reinventing ourselves and embracing new experiences and adventures.
Yes, change
sometimes feel onerous and exhausting, but going on what might feel like a
rollercoaster ride can also be exhilarating, if we embrace it with anticipation
and an acceptance. There is also no age limit to having fun and approach new
experiences with a childlike playfulness. A youthful mindset at any age allows
us to remain curious and open to change.
My invitation
to you therefore is to consider the changes you may want to bring about at the
start of Spring. What are the dreams you have had or changes you wanted
considered during the last year that you may now begin to put into motion? As
the saying goes, there is no time like the presence. Be brave and take the
first step!
